another successful cooperation
We are pleased to announce another successful cooperation between deugro and Siemens Wind Power A/S in form of a long term contract for the transport of more upcoming offshore wind turbine projects.
We are thankful for the trust and confidence Siemens has shown to us throughout this whole process. We consider this yet another confirmation of the strong cooperation we have had for years.
It has been a great pleasure working with Siemens on this joint task of bringing down costs in the transportation of offshore wind turbines.
When we started working on this fascinating project, it very quickly became clear to us that this task required more than an ordinary transport approach. We needed to study the whole offshore industry, as well as the shipping industry. There was no industrialized solution available on the market that met the project requirements, so the dimensions and weights called for innovation. We needed to figure something out, and the solution was to redesign vessels to make them fit for the purpose.
The solution we chose is flexible, innovative, efficient, and safe. Two newly built RO/RO vessels will handle the transports. Additionally, the minimization of crane usage will save costs and increase safety significantly. The vessels are designed to be multi-flexible to allow for both RO/RO and LO/LO operations and at the same time keep cargo under deck.
It was surely a long journey, with lots of analysis and creative thinking to determine the important factors for future transport solutions, but we have been delighted to work with dedicated people on the common goal of bringing down costs significantly. We are therefore very pleased to have secured this long-term contract for the transportation of Siemens’ offshore turbines.
Optimizing the means of transport is an important step in reducing the cost of energy in the supply chain. The next step is to reduce costs in the actual logistics, where we also see room for improvement, both in the transportation of wind turbine generators, as well as in the field of foundations and installation. These are some of the areas where we see a lot of potential to achieve further savings in this industry.
