| Mining Business is key to deugro's success |
|
The Mining business in Southern Africa is
in an expansion phase and we as deugro (South Africa) are currently and actively
involved in handling four of the top five mining houses,
covering a number of Platinum, Diamond, Coal, Gold, Copper, Cobalt and
Uranium mines. We have recently been awarded a new Platinum Mine in Zimbabwe and
a Diamond Mine in Lesotho, where we will be handling the whole project on a
Turnkey basis, representing some USD80 million in project value. We have been
awarded these contracts by virtue of our track record in similar ventures and
our experience in handling projects of this nature.

deugro (South Africa) launches its "Black
Empowerment Staff Training" (BEST) initiative on the 2nd January 2003.
This is a program designed specifically for our African staff's children who
have gained their School Leaving Certificate Higher Grade (Matric, University
Entrance). We will have these School graduates work with us for one year,
covering all aspects of our business, and we will then sponsor them through
University to gain a Degree in a Subject matter applicable to
deugro's industry such as commerce, engineering, finance, or
logistics.
During University vacation they will come back to
deugro for "on-the-job training", and then they will work for us for a
minimum of two years after having graduated. We hope
of course for a lot longer!
Currently we have eight children in the "program". The
youngest of which is five years old, and whose full legal name is "Bafana
Deugro Ndlovu" - dedication and long term planning from his Father who has been
with deugro since we started operations in South Africa!
