The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia lies at the
furthermost part of the south western Asia bordering to the west by Red Sea, to
the East by Arabian Gulf, to the North by Kuwait, Iraq and Jordan and to the
South by Yemen & Oman.
The Kingdom occupies about 80% of the Arabian peninsula with a
total area of over 2,250,000 square kilometers with a population of about 22
million. The capital city is Riyadh.
The currency of Saudi Arabia is the Saudi Riyal, which is divided
into 100 Halalas and convertible to other currencies. The exchange rate is
pegged to 3,75 Riyal per US Dollar.
Government offices working times start from 07:30 am to 14:30 pm,
Saturday to Wednesday to allow for prayer. Thursday and Friday represent
the "weekend" in the Arab world. Working time from the private sector
differs depending on company and location within the Kingdom.
The official calendar in Saudi Arabia is the Hejira calendar with
12 lunar months and 354 days. Besides the weekend, there are two Eid
holidays: Eid Al Fiter from the 25th of Ramadan to the 05th of Shawal and
Eid Al Adh from the 5th to the 15th of Dhul Heja.
